Cadence announces its annual fundraising event entitled Summer In The City at Hardywood in Scott’s Addition Tuesday, June 17 from 6:30 – 10:00pm featuring live music, an auction, a raffle and ‘60s and ‘70s costume and dance contests. Tickets are on sale now for $50 (plus applicable fees) per person and can be purchased here. The ticket price includes admission, food and a drink ticket. The nationally acclaimed music of Richmond’s own, Deau Eyes with Ali Thibodeau will headline the evening with Me And The Moon opening.

Those who attend Summer In The City are encouraged to dress in their favorite ‘60s attire like bell-bottom jeans, leather fringed vests, floral prints, headbands and go-go boots or ’70s disco apparel including polyester shirts, sequins, metallic fabrics, jumpsuits and platform shoes. Cadence alum Anthony Cosby, Jr., will be teaching all attendees the popular dances from the ‘60s and ‘70s. So, get ready to twist, jerk, pony, bump and hustle the night away. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed male and female, and attendees will then get to show off their dance moves and compete in a dance contest.

Live auction items include memberships to The Science Museum of Virginia, Children’s Museum of Richmond, Virginia Museum of Arts, and the Visual Arts Center of Richmond.  Tickets to some of Richmond’s most exciting events will also be up for auction such a two night's stay at Indigo House in Afton, VA, tickets to a Broadway In Richmond musical, Lyle Lovett, Richmond International Film Festival, The Nutcracker, a Richmond Symphony event, VCU Men’s Basketball, Firehouse Theatre, and free admission to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.  Other items include a motorcycle trip and dinner, two seats on the Lower River raft trip by Riverside Outfitters, Inc., exquisite wine, fine dining at some of Richmond’s favorite restaurants, and so much more.

Event proceeds will support educational outreach programs and scholarships that Cadence offers year-round for area youth including STAGE WRITE, a college preparation and workforce readiness program, Jammin’ in June & July, summer theatre camps, and The PSA Project which promotes advocacy through creative expression as well as several other worthwhile eduction and training programs.
