Crawley and Tesori’s Moving Musical Violet Opens this February

Richmond, VA—Cadence Theatre Company in partnership with Virginia Repertory Theatre is pleased to present its second production of the 2016-2017 season, Violet by Brian Crawley and Jeanine Tesori. Violet is presented in association with the nation’s largest faith-inspired festival, The Acts of Faith Festival. The city-wide theatrical celebration is hosted by Second Presbyterian Church in Richmond.

Violet tells the story of a young woman’s quest for beauty amidst the image-obsessed landscape of the 1960s. Facially disfigured in a childhood accident, Violet dreams of a miraculous transformation through the power of faith. Convinced that a televangelist in Oklahoma can heal her, she hops a Greyhound bus and starts the journey of a lifetime. Violet is a moving musical, featuring show-stopping anthems from American roots to folk to gospel, and addresses themes surrounding the power of faith, finding true love, and developing the courage to persevere despite adversity. Recommended for ages 13 and up. Contains some adult language.

Violet is directed and choreographed by Chase Kniffen, with musical direction by Kim Fox. Christie Jackson will play the title role of Violet, Josh Marin will play Flick and Matt Polson will play Monty. The talented cast also includes Karla Brown, Sophia Bunnell, Katrinah Carol Lewis, Scott Melton, Tyler Nobles, Robyn O’Neill, Joe Pabst and Eric Williams. The band under Fox’s supervision includes Jon Wheelock, Scott Milstead, Forrest Link and Marissa Resmini. Violet’s design team includes Rich Mason (Scenic Design), Gregg Hillmar (Lighting Design), Sarah Grady (Costume Design), Lara Koplin (Scenic Artist), Elaina Riddell (Properties), and Tommy Hawfield (Technical Director). Stephen Rudlin provides vocal supervision and Janet Rodgers is the dialect coach.
