Internships

Are you a college student, graduate, or young professional seeking a career in professional theater and film? If so, Cadence offers internships designed to give you valuable training and experience to gain employment in your field of interest. We accept interns in administration, marketing, production, and dramaturgy for full-season or partial-season contracts up to two years. Our Artistic and Managing Director and Production Manager will determine the length of your contract.

During your internship, you will be assigned projects and responsibilities vital to the day-to-day running of the company. We want to help you gain valuable skills and receive helpful feedback and support. You will work closely with your supervisor, who will guide and mentor you through your internship.

To be considered, submit your application and attend an interview. We do not charge a fee for intern company membership, and we offer a modest hourly rate for specific duties. You must be at least 18 years old and provide for your own living, housing, and transportation expenses. You can also arrange course credit with your academic institution. Plan to devote approximately 15-25 hours per semester to the company.

Our application deadline for the 2023-2024 (October-September) internship program has passed. Applications for 2024-2025 will open May 1, 2024. Send your resume and letter of interest to Anna Senechal Johnson, Artistic and Managing Director at info@cadencetheatre.org.

As an intern, you will receive:

  • Complimentary tickets to performances and passes to after-parties and receptions

  • 50% off tuition cost of adult acting classes

  • Invitations to post-show panel discussions

  • Invitations to staff and production meetings

  • College credit (when it can be arranged through the participant’s current college or university)

  • Paid hours

I feel so thrilled to have interned at Cadence for a full year! They produce excellent, thought-provoking, high-quality works. The small size of the company let me explore many different areas of nonprofit theater and receive individual attention, which allowed me to significantly develop professionally. My work at Cadence not only prepared me for the professional theater world but also taught me the true value of collaboration in the arts.

— Claire Yenson, 2011-2012 Intern
