Cadence Theatre Company Presents Musical, Godspell as part of The Acts of Faith Festival

Cadence Theatre Company (CTC) proudly presents Godspell, by Stephen Schwartz, February 11—27, 2011 as part of the city-wide Acts of Faith Festival at historic St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on River Road. Conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak, Godspell is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time. Based on The Gospel According to St. Matthew, Godspell is a unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love. Godspell touches upon the lessons and Parables that Jesus taught and concludes with the Passion story. Many of the lyrics are derived from the Episcopal hymnal, including “Save the People,” “Day by Day,” “Bless the Lord,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “We Beseech Thee.” In addition, the lyrics for “On the Willows” are derived from Psalm 137, “Light of the World” is largely derived from Matthew 5 and “Alas for You” from Matthew 23.

Godspell’s talented cast features Nick Shackleford in the title role of Jesus and Russell Rowland in the roles of John the Baptist and Judas. Ensemble members include Daniel Cimo, T’Arah Craig, Chris Hester, Lisa Kotula, Carolyn Meade, Rachel Nahrwold, Brian Vaughan and Aly Wepplo.

Godspell is led by Anna Johnson (Director), Kim Fox (Musical Director), Leslie Owens-harrington (Choreographer), Matthew Landwehr (Lighting Design), Renee Coates (Costume Design) and Brian Barker (Scenic Design).
