P.O.C.—Educating and Engaging our community.

In today’s political climate, P.O.C.'s mission is to merge art and activism, giving a voice to minority artists while inspiring voices of the youth to speak out. We aim to answer questions like: “What is going on in the world and how can I use my art to make a difference?”

Episode 1

P.O.C. co-hosts Angelina, Jonah and Tia interview Yasmeen Jaaber. Yasmeen is a Black, Muslim creative who is deeply committed to achieving freedom from white supremacy for herself and for all people. A Richmond Virginia native, Ayana has been a part of many theatre companies such as SPARC and Virginia Repertory Theatre.

Lydia Ross started dancing in an outreach program called Minds In Motion in 2009, which led her to her passion and career choice of becoming a professional ballerina. She is currently a Junior at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) as a Psychology major, previously a dance major in the VCUarts dance and choreography program. Her journey still continues being a Trainee with the Richmond Ballet and will continue forever with her love and passion for dance.

Episode 4

EASHA is a 19 year old New Jersey based pop artist. She was a finalist at the World Cafe Live Yearly Showcase in Philadelphia, performs at local festivals, and is set to perform an early show at the Bluebird Cafe. In Nashville, she regularly co-writes and works with Grammy winning songwriter Liz Rose (who writes songs for Taylor Swift, Little Big Town etc).

Her original work has been featured on The Atlantic, Yahoo!, Music Inc. Magazine, the Trentonian, etc. Ultimately, giving back is as important as recognition to Easha. In her school orchestra, she composed music and lyrics for two UNICEF tributes (“A Better Day” and “Waves”) that she performed on an international charity tour. The songs were so well-received that the CEO of UNICEF herself praised the “skill” and “passion exhibited.” Finally, EASHA is the Grand Prize winner of the National Lionsgate Cover Competition.

EASHA’s music is like if Norah Jones married John Mayer, surprising the audience with an Indian Classical Music background. Her unique style has garnered her over 30,000 TikTok followers in a month, continuing to grow. Outside of her singing/songwriting, EASHA enjoys triathlons and business --- she placed 11th in the world at the 2019 World Championships of Triathlon in Switzerland and attends Stanford University.
